I received this question yesterday:
“For some weeks, I have been felt interested in improving myself and I have found that auto-hypnosis and affirmations are very useful to gain self-esteem, and that it really helps you in your life.
I feel that I have some problems talking to people in an auditorium and that most of the time I feel shy with people from better social level than me or with beautiful ladies.
I have read that I can record my affirmations, for example 10, and hear them in my mp3 twice a day, before going to bed and after awaking in the morning. I want to try this, and I would like you to share with me your best affirmations in order to resolve my problems.
I would like to hear your opinions and advices”
When I first started improving myself I though affirmations made a lot of sense. They were easy. They were highly promoted by self -help books. They SOUNDED good.
Of course back then I was also so lost that ANYTHING sounded like a good idea. Desperation can make you REAL stupid.
Lots of things sound like good ideas that are just plain stupid. Watching people go though the maze of self help junk is like watching one of those shows that have videos of people getting kicked in the balls. You know how it is going to end yet you still have to watch.
I waded waist deep through every self -help method you can think of. 99% of them boil down to nothing more than trying to overpower your problems with over amplified good feelings. In other words…if you lie to yourself long enough maybe you will believe it.
Time after time I hear, “Wait Tom, You don’t understand, X is different. It is based on…energy or meridians or trance or religion or ritual magic or stars or linguistics or universal consciousness or karma.” It is all the same.
Then they spend thousands of dollars on whatever lie they choose and become emotionally invested in that lie. So much so that the actual results don’t matter as long as it SOUNDS good. There is nothing more sad that watching someone whose like is complete crap telling me how great X is. They are still depressed. They are still broke. They still have no friends…other than the other believers.
Not long ago I had a guy who wanted to make some changes. No matter what I did, he wanted to tell me about his childhood and how abused he was. I would try to get him to focus on what was happening now in his life. After he listened he would say, “I understand where you are going but my grandmother treated me like crap when I was 4 years old and that is my real problem. So I let him go on his way.
About 6 months ago I ran into this guy at the local mall. We sat down at thex Starbucks for a cup and he began telling me the wonders of X that he had discovered. X was amazing. X had all the answers. X was vey special and only very few knew about X. It was being taught be Mr.Y. Only Mr.Y knew the secrets and how to make people powerful.
The problem was that I knew all about X from 20 years ago. I also knew Mr.Y and that he was a con man. He taught whatever was the latest buzz word in self help.
The other thing was this. This guy was still HOMELESS and living out of his car. He had no job. He had no friends. He had to come to the mall to use the computers in the Mac Store because he could not afford the internet. He looked like he could use a shower.
After I informed him of my opinion of X he exploded. What followed was a series of email telling me why I did not understand and why I was ignorant.
I have a rule about helping people. They have two have 2 qualities.
1, They have to be READY. That means: ready to let go of whatever else they are trying to use. Ready to listen. Ready to follow instructions. Ready to do what I say. Ready to learn.
2, They have to be WILLING. Willing to do the assignments. Willing to be honest about the problem. Willing to see themselves as they are rather than how they wish to believe they are. Willing to explore the beliefs about themselves that they have been suppressing most of their lives with things like affirmations.
Read this next part because it is very important.
If someone is ready and willing, I can each them the abilities they need to finally take charge of their lives instead of being a slave to whatever wind is blowing in their mind.
So this other guy comes to me and explains that the universe sent him. I knew this was going to be trouble. He told me that in the universe everything happens for a reason. Universal intelligence guides us. I want nothing to do with this guy. He was not ready or willing so I would not be able to help him. So I asked him one simple question. “If the universe guides you then maybe you are supposed to be screwed up until the universe decides to fix you.” He did not know how to respond.
I then told him that when he was ready to take responsibility for his life I would be happy to help him. Until then he can continue being kicked in the balls by the universe. I did ask him to let me video tape it because there was this show.
Look folks let me be blunt, as if I were not already doing so, LOTS of stuff sounds good. Very few things actually work. That is why we developed the 3D Mind. We waded through all of the other crap so that you don’t have to.
Yes the 3D Mind costs some money. If your life is not worth 249 dollars then I know this guy in a car that knows some secret stuff that is less. Maybe you can move in with him.
On the other hand, if you are ready and willing we can provide the ability to remove the obstacles that get in the way of you having the life that you dream about.

Now back to my affirmations ” I am a wonderful and caring person, I am a wonderful and caring person, I am a wonderful and caring person, I am a wonderful and caring person.”
Damn…still not working! Yes I know I will get hate mail about this one ☺
