It is one of the things I hear over and over again from good people who have learned persuasion skills. They feel like they are taking advantage of someone if they use the persuasion tools they have learned.  I have seen this in several areas.

1 Selling a product or service

2 Meeting the opposite sex

3 Advancing your career 

It is true that in the wrong hands these kinds of persuasion tools can cause a lot of damage. I have seen it happen before and the interesting part is that the most damage usually happens to the person misusing the tools. 

If your intent is to:

-Fool people into believing you are something that you are not

-Convince someone of something that is not true

-Make someone do something that is not in their best interest

-Build value in something worthless

Then you better be ready for the explosion.

Lying and dishonesty are the tools of the untrained. They have to lie because it is all they have. They have to exaggerate because they don’t feel like what they have or are is enough. What they offer has no real value. They have to fool people. It has nothing to do with persuasion.

Most people who have hesitation about using the skills feel like they are lying. They don’t want to make other people feel that way.  They don’t want to fool people. On the other hand if you understand that all these persuasion tools are meant to do nothing more than open the door for people to see the value you are offering, it puts a whole different light on the idea of persuasion. 

When you use the tools we teach you are building a relationship with the person you are talking to. 

You are making them feel like they can trust you.

You are eliciting good feelings towards you and your product.

They have a connection with you and what you are offering. 

Change the way you think about persuasion, connection and personal change. All these skills are developed to open doors so people can really see what you have to offer. If you are afraid to open that door then you have to make some changes. It could be changes to your product, to your offer, or to YOU.  

I hear it over and over again and it hurts my brain each time. “I don’t want to change what I am. I want to just convince other people that it is worthwhile.” Most people who are not getting what they want in life say the same thing over and over again. They want to believe they are fine and people should accept them the way you are.  They just want to change the world around them.

The truth you don’t want to hear…

You are not fine and people are not going to accept you the way you are. You are not going to convince the entire world to change the standards they have and accept you the way you are. You are going to have to change to get what you want. If you are not getting the life you want…you are going to have to change…

I know that stings but there is good news for you. 90% of the changes you need to make are how you feel about yourself. Only 10% of the changes are anything anyone else would visually notice. The bad news… You are going to have to put in 100% of the effort. There are no magic pills. With the right guidance you can have the life you want. 

Learning the tools we have will make it easier but you have to use them. Kim and I can only guide you. We can’t do it for you.

You may not be the person you would like to be. I understand that. You might be afraid of opening that door. I understand that as well. You don’t have to change everything. What we have been doing for people is defining where changes need to happen and where they don’t. Most people already have great qualities that they are not even aware of. Their problem is that all they see is where their life sucks. Once you get an accurate inventory of your assets and liabilities then you can make the changes you want to make to get the life you want to have. 

Just imagine not being afraid of opening that door and letting people really get to know who you are.

Just imagine waking up in the morning and liking yourself and who you are becoming.

Just imagine walking through the world being proud of your accomplishments.

Just imagine never having to lie. 

Then you can use the persuasion skills to open those doors without fear. You can feel good about being seen in the world. You can make mistakes without falling apart because they were just mistakes. Bottom line… It does not matter if you are selling a product or learning to meet people, if you make what you have to offer of real value then using the skills to open those doors will be an amazing experience no matter what kind of persuasion application you are using the tools for.
