I recently had a question on our list from a guy who wanted to get his boss to provide a new computer monitor. here is teh question:

“I need to anchor my boss to get me a better lcd screen and a better chair. I would really appreciate a word for word script for this purpose.”

I put up a video response of this post for the Gold Members. Gold Members click here

There are several problems with this request. First of all, there is no magic script that will get you stuff. I wish there was. If so I would not be here. I would have all the stuff I want. 🙂 Words are powerful but it is HOW you deliver them that makes the difference. That is why we just released the Secrets of Vocal Influence online product.

The second problem is that there is no anchor that gets you stuff. It is HOW you use and direct that anchor that makes the difference. Some people use anchors like they are grenades. The toss out a happiness anchor and it explodes happiness all over the place. Then they HOPE that the happiness will somehow get directed to the thing that want.  The problem with that is that it is sloppy. My using Rapport, Anchoring and Vocal Skills at the same time you give the anchor purpose and direction.

If I take a bunch of gunpowder and pile it up on the sidewalk and light it,,,,nothing but a fizzling pile of powder happens. There is no power to it. If I take that same gun powder and put it into a bullet I get an explosion. If I take that bullet and put it into a gun I give it direction.

The same is true of anchoring. If you do not give it direction then you are just putting out a pile if fizzle.

There is a strategy to doing this. The great part is that once you give an anchor direction you can keep that direction moving.

Let me make this real clear. ANCHORING IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH ALONE.

So what do you do?

3 easy steps.

One – Build a foundation of rapport and connection

Two- Set an appropriate anchor

Three- use that anchor in combination with rapport and Vocal Influence to give that anchor direction and focus.

  1. That’s the problem Tom, all I have to do is be seen and it fires off an anchor for the boss to ask me to get him coffee!
